The sooty blotch model has beeen developed only recently and still awaits validation. Forecasts made by this model are therefore mainly intended as a framework for trials and experiments.
Nonetheless the model can be a valuable tool for on-farm users wishing to compare their experiences of sooty blotch with forecasts made by the programme.
At present, sooty blotch disease is a major problem only on organic farms, especially those under low-intensity management or with scab-resistant varieties.
